Who would have thought that stepping through a Justin Bieber fan account when Instagram was launched in 2010 was the catalyst for turning into a cult micro-influencer with more than 10k followers on Instagram? Maddie Green of @the. The inside View is an example of how this could be the case.
Tell us about yourself, the place you’re from, etc.
Hello! My name me Maddie Green, and I’m from Denver, Colorado! I’m currently a senior at the university where I study Marketing.
How did you start using Instagram?
It’s a long story! I downloaded Instagram at the beginning of the day when it launched in 2010. I joined the account for fun, but it soon became a “Justin Bieber fan account” page.
I could put up every all day “contests” and “quizzes” on celebrities.Loved being on social media, and it was my fun time as a child.
I had around 20,000 followers on my account, of which I still have a lot of fans, so I changed the account to a private one. In May 2017, I posted my blog account, Inside View.
What helped you to grow your Instagram account to get it to where it is today?
I’ve been awed and adept at keeping up with the latest trends and numbers. In 2012, I increased the number of likes on some Facebook pages to more than two hundred thousand followers, and the most efficient continued for over one hour per day.
I realized that I had a distinct talent before I was 12 and wanted to translate it into a symbol.
In February 2019, I joined a growth program called Mastery by Mal, which taught me new things I had yet to discover regarding growing my account. I was making using these techniques as well as my methods.
I spend around 10 minutes a day dedicated to growing my following. At present, I have 11,000 followers!
Do you have any tips for the readers on achieving 10,000 followers on Instagram?
It took me about an entire year of 15 minutes per day to grow from my slow-growing number of followers to 11k followers. Of course, this will differ for everyone! My tips for readers are spread across the internet, but this is what I have found to work for me:
- Be true to yourself. Do not compare yourself to other people.
- Locate a gap and stay with it.
- Don’t let yourself be crushed by trying to look perfect.
- Once you have started operating with manufacturers, it will live up to your private, non-public logo.
- Increase your fan base gradually.
- Share your story Every day! Do your best to inspire anyone.
How did you become involved in the blogger/influencer space?
This is a fantastic entertaining story! I went on a street journey with my dad toward the Grand Canyon. We’d often snap amazing photos of fun, but there was always an extraordinary story behind the scenes of each one.
I set out to share my memories and story through my account.
This was later renamed “The Inside View, My Story Behind the Photograph.”
I decided to create a new Instagram page where I could explore this idea! After a while, I noticed different influencers sharing with apparel manufacturers, and I thought, “wow, I want to do this.”
I looked up whom they’ve been working with and immediately sent them a message to find out their collaborators’ contact information!
Today, 12 years later, I receive regular emails from companies seeking to collaborate alongside me instead of me reaching out to them.
My favorite companies to be a part of are our local boutiques, Denver restaurants, events, and spas! They are fun because I am the most authentic, and I write according to my plans and in my own words.
My top corporate sponsors have included the Princess Polly Boutique, USANA, and Lululemon.
What’s the typical day like for you when it comes to having an Instagram influencer?
I even have three distinct types of days! My life is always chaotic.
As a university student, I’m always highly active. My typical day involves:
Working or attending.
Going to college (or both) throughout the day.
Only having an hour or two after dark to work through my Instagram.
During this time, I write or reply to emails and sometimes even take photos of content.
When I collaborate with manufacturers, for instance, when I’m working for the Denver spa, I get up early, head to the location, get the service completed, and create material for the website. These are my favorite days!
My 1/3 day of work is like taking high-school classes or painting, not thinking about my obligations to keep up with my social media, and then getting behind in.
It’s a constant struggle for me. I aim to grow better at not procrastinating and developing a content strategy!
How much time do you spend on your Instagram?
Most of the time, my Instagram is less of a priority over my other tasks. I generally take a few minutes at night and at night to check my email accounts and respond to messages!
When I have logos to create, I will write each on an ad-hoc note. During my day off from painting or teaching, I’ll have around 2 hours to take photos and edit the content so that it can be prepared for the person who approved or submitted it the following night.
I’m spending about 15 minutes gaining my audience using my growth methods! It could be a completely new blog article.
What advice do you have for micro-influencers who are just starting and hoping to grow to 10k followers on Instagram?
I suggest selecting a few creators you like. Check out what they write on their blogs and the companies they’re working with. Find out what your motivation is, and then take the plunge! Write down what you would like to be able to submit, and the results are sure to come.
What tips can you offer readers to participate with different manufacturers?
This could be a whole new blog post! In the simplest terms… Be aware of your value! I’ve even offered you a set price for my posts. I consider how much time and effort it will be and how much I’ll be able to deliver!
Start with smaller companies on Instagram! My first experience was to DM small boutiques and paint using them without spending any money initially.
I know the cost and am working with organizations with influencer advertising budgets! Click Here
Begin with smaller companies for free, even fun!
If you collaborate with a couple of smaller brands, the big ones will see and ask you to collaborate!
